Press Room May 7, 2007 So far, this has been an exciting year for cardiac cath lab nurse Homer Capiral. Just weeks after being named a Great 100 Nurses recipient, Capiral was honored with the Lois Robillard Excellence in Nursing Award. Still, the humble, charming nurse is taking it all in stride. If I had known about this, I would have at least worn matching scrubs that fit right, he joked at the May 7th ceremony held in City Hall. Named in honor of the late nurse and volunteer Lois Robillard, the award honors an outstanding nurse who meets the high standards that represented Ms. Robillards life and career. Requirements include evidence of displaying leadership, humanitarianism and compassion, along with other specific contributions to the field of nursing. Capiral has been a nurse for 18 years, spending the last six years at Medical City. He believes the key to success in life is in living by the Golden Rule - do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Always keeping his patients best interest at heart, Capiral is a recipient of many City Lights Awards. He also possesses solid clinical and leadership skills that have earned him the respect of his colleagues and peers. Capiral recently passed the national board certification and is now a board certified cardiovascular nurse (BC, CVN-1). |
